General Manager for a Guernsey domiciled reinsurer

Our client is seeking a General Manager for a reinsurer to further develop the business. This top level role is based in Guernsey and the successful candidate will have worked for a reinsurance company or within an underwriting environment and possess capabilities in finance, accounting, operations and governance functions. A minimum of 10 years industry experience is required together with a relevant professional qualification(s).

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Apply strategic and operational planning
  • Represent the Company to external stakeholders such as rating agencies and regulators
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders and service providers and other suppliers
  • Develop and implement long and short term Company objectives in partnership with the Board and the ILS
  • Demonstrate leadership in the promotion of the Company’s business plan
  • Consider / react to industry developments in the best interests of the Company
  • Overall responsibility for management and day-to-day operations
  • Attend all board and committee meetings
  • Assist the Board and committees with strategy formulation, policy setting and governance requirements
  • Ensure that the Company attracts, develops and retains the necessary resources and skills in order to achieve business objectives
  • Ensure that direct reports meet or exceed their own accountabilities and competencies
  • Ensure that all client regulatory and legal issues are complied with
  • Lead, direct, develop and motivate staff toward the accomplishment of business and departmental goals and objectives and the accomplishment of personal objectives
  • Organisation of team priorities, stakeholder communications, team meetings and liaison with other colleagues at the service providers and stakeholders
  • Attendance at regular Board meetings responsible for all reporting to the Board including but not limited to financial and operational performance, investments, underwriting, claims & reserving and risk
  • Attendance at committee meetings including Underwriting, Claims & Reserving and Enterprise Risk Management Committees
  • Review of the Committee / Board packs and review of minutes

Qualifications:

  • The target candidate will have worked for a reinsurance company or within an underwriting environment and possess capabilities in finance, accounting, operations and governance functions.  A minimum of 10 years industry experience is required together with a relevant professional qualification(s).
